ULNAR NERVE TRANSPOSITION

Please follow these simple instructions:

ICE: The use of ice following surgery decreases pain and swelling. Apply the ice in a well-sealed bag directly over the bandages. There is no need to time your application of ice, simply keep the area cold, replacing ice bags when they melt.
ELEVATE: Elevation helps control swelling. Elevate your arm, above the level of your chest. Use several pillows to prop your arm in this elevated position, such that your fingers are pointed towards the ceiling. Wiggle your fingers.
PAIN CONTROL: You have received prescriptions for pain medication. If you have not done so already, have them filled by your pharmacy. Please refer to the handout regarding pain medication and use as directed.
BATHING: In order to bathe, place a waterproof dressing over your wound to keep it from getting wet. You may shower normally after 48 hours, gently washing the wound with a mild soap and water. Do not soak in a bathtub or hot tub until the wound is completely healed and the sutures have been removed in the office.
DRESSINGS: Your dressings will be changed for you at your first occupational therapy appointment. A simple band-aid pr piece of gauze can be used thereafter.
